The National Institutes of Health (NIH) acknowledges benefits from Acupuncture |

“The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Consensus Development Statement on acupuncture concluded that acupuncture is effective in alleviating postoperative and chemotherapy nausea in adults and may be effective for treating nausea in pregnancy.2 The NIH Consensus Statement also concluded that the evidence was promising for the use of acupuncture in some cases of pain management.2 “ … “they [NIH] did state that several applications of acupuncture treatment appear promising, including postoperative pain, myofascial pain, and low back pain” -- United HealthCare “There is clear evidence that needle acupuncture is efficacious for adult post-operative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting, and probably for the nausea of pregnancy” — NIH (National Institutes of Health) |

Acupuncture being applied to help pregnant mothers in concert with Midwives and OB-GYNs |

Inspired by a New Zealand from 2006, a group of Acupuncturists have opened a practice focused primarily on supporting pregnancy. The role of Acupuncture is to reduce the incidence of medical induction and caesarean sections by better preparing the cervix and pelvis for the trauma of labor. Acupuncture goes Mainstream |

As the demand for alternative therapies grow, traditional institutions have started to recognize the value of alternative therapies and incorporate them into their service offerings. Most recently, Stamford hospital in CT has begun offering Acupuncture as part of their service offerings along side traditional treatments like surgery. The explanation for the adoption of Acupuncture has been the empirical evidence of effectiveness and growing patient demand. Consequently, western science is slowly accepting the validity of Acupuncture and other alternative therapies |

Brain Injury Program receiving Two Federal Grants includes Acupuncture program as part of their Research |

“The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), the #1 rehabilitation hospital in the country, today announced two significant research grants awarded to the Brain Injury Medicine and Rehabilitation Program to fuel cutting-edge research awarded by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).” Acupuncture was identified as a component of this program for improving “sleeping patterns, cognitive function, and mood of inpatient TBI [Traumatic Brain Injury] patients” |

As we move faster and faster through our urban life styles, it is becoming harder and harder to balance our work , social, and family lives. How do you do it? I don’t have the answer.
