The National Institutes of Health (NIH) acknowledges benefits from Acupuncture

Acupuncture being applied to help pregnant mothers in concert with Midwives and OB-GYNs

Inspired by a New Zealand from 2006, a group of Acupuncturists have opened a practice focused primarily on supporting pregnancy.

They have found success by partnering with midwives and OB-GYN doctors forming a complementary support team for their patients.

The role of Acupuncture is to reduce the incidence of medical induction and caesarean sections by better preparing the cervix and pelvis for the trauma of labor.

OB-GYNs are referring patients for discomforts and pre– and post delivery support for the mothers.

Acupuncture goes Mainstream

As the demand for alternative therapies grow, traditional institutions have started to recognize the value of alternative therapies and incorporate them into their service offerings.

Most recently, Stamford hospital in CT has begun offering Acupuncture as part of their service offerings along side traditional treatments like surgery.

The explanation for the adoption of Acupuncture has been the empirical evidence of effectiveness and growing patient demand.  Consequently, western science is slowly accepting the validity of Acupuncture and other alternative therapies

Brain Injury Program receiving Two Federal Grants includes Acupuncture program as part of their Research

“The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), the #1 rehabilitation hospital in the country, today announced two significant research grants awarded to the Brain Injury Medicine and Rehabilitation Program to fuel cutting-edge research awarded by the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).”

Acupuncture was identified as a component of this program for improving “sleeping patterns, cognitive function, and mood of inpatient TBI [Traumatic Brain Injury] patients”

Balance Found in Old Culture

As we move faster and faster through our urban life styles, it is becoming harder and harder to balance our work , social, and family lives.

How do you do it?  I don’t have the answer.  But more people in mainstream America are turning to Asian alternative therapies.

Aside from the physical alternatives like Yoga, meditation, ...etc. recent celebrities are turning to other alternative therapies as well including a previously less known therapy called cupping.

Cupping targets acute problem areas of the body by suctioning out toxins in key areas highlighted by deep red markings after a cupping session.  This therapy helps the body restore balance by removing excess toxins.  Sometimes repeated treatments are needed for severe cases
